Hey, I’m Carmen…
…the founder and lead CPA behind Woodfern Accounting Solutions. My journey into the industry started with a master's degree in Accounting. I then worked in public accounting as an auditor at KPMG.
However, life took an exciting turn when the arrival of my first son prompted me to reassess my priorities. I wanted to balance my professional life with the joys of staying at home with my family.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the decision to step away from KPMG in July 2020 and embark on the entrepreneurial path. Woodfern Accounting Solutions was born from the desire to merge my professional expertise with the flexibility of managing my own schedule.
Growing up in an environment where both my parents were business owners and serial entrepreneurs, I naturally gravitated toward a similar path. My husband and I ventured into the world of short-term rentals, and I found myself immersed in not only managing our own businesses but also providing bookkeeping and consulting services. Soon enough, friends and family began seeking my assistance, prompting me to extend my expertise to a broader clientele outside of our own businesses.
What sets Woodfern Accounting Solutions apart is my firsthand experience as a small business owner and real estate investor. I've navigated the challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship, allowing me to connect with my clients on a deeper level because quite frankly I’ve been there. I bring practical solutions to the table, having been in the trenches and faced the everyday issues that small businesses encounter.
While my strength lies in numbers, I am passionate about demystifying the financial aspect of businesses. My experience at KPMG did more than just prepare me for small business work. Working at a Big 4 public accounting firm required intense training, grueling hours, and precision work that made the switch to small business support seamless.
My goal is to empower my clients with the knowledge to understand their financial standing, enabling them to make informed decisions. As a CPA, I also serve as a tax liaison, actively collaborating with clients and their tax advisors to develop and implement proactive tax strategies.
Beyond my professional pursuits, I'm a proud parent of two children and share my life with a hardworking husband who, like me, values the autonomy that comes with self-employment. I understand the importance of time and the desire to live life on one's own terms.
